C&M Designs provides the highest quality clerical and liturgical vestments available. Every clergy stole is unique, handcrafted by professional fiberartists from studios across North America. The techniques include machine and hand-quilting, batik, tapestry, handweaving, applique, embroidery, dye and paint processes. Though the individual artisans are proven masters of their techniques, we at C&M Designs decide which liturgical pieces are suitable for presentation to our customers. Our commitment to excellence is a primary factor in every decision that affects the quality of the work we represent.
What We Know About "The Fit": A traditional clergy stole should rest flat around the back of the neck, hang straight down the front and show no signs of crookedness or crossing at the hem. While some stoles may be sculpted in a way to deliberately achieve an asymmetrical or three-dimensional effect that differs from the "standard" vestment shapes, all minister's stoles should stay in place when worn, whether sitting or standing, without requiring constant adjustment.
Many of our minister friends can tell stories of their disappointment at receiving beautiful stoles which appear to be finely made but which fit poorly, diminishing both comfort and appearance. At C&M Designs, we set out to remedy this. We began by developing our own patterns and submitting our prototypes for review by clergy. Before we took our first step into the marketplace with our stoles, we determined that each and every one had to pass the "fit test". We also went looking for examples of vestments from different denominations and from different time periods.
While surprisingly little has changed in some traditions, the tone and styles of worship and celebration have broadened dramatically. Today, pastors and religious professionals are looking for clerical wear and artworks that contribute new expression to the purposeful gathering of their congregations. They want liturgical vestments that reflect the joy of celebration, the dignity of ancient traditions and the bright, compelling energy of spiritual renewal.
It is the commitment to excellence that makes C&M Designs a willing partner in this celebration. The gallery on this site is a catalog of our finest products. Size Matters:
Traditional clerical attire includes robes and other vestments which, like clothing, must be sized to fit people who vary in height, shape and weight. While we do not think of clergy stoles as garments, we know that size matters and that ministers are particularly concerned about "the fit."
Rather than offering stoles in different sizes, however, we have worked to develop unique patterns that can be worn by almost anyone regardless of height or girth.
With few exceptions, the stoles on our website are of similar dimensions. The panels are between 5 and 6 inches wide. The length -- measured from the nape of the neck to the finished hem -- is between 52 to 54 inches. C&M Designs stoles are almost "one size fits all" but we are willing to alter the length for people who want the stole shorter either because of their own stature or as a matter of style. We are seldom asked to make a stole longer but custom orders can address that, too.
When you purchase one of our clergy stoles we are confident that you will compare it favorably to any others you have tried on. We relish the positive feedback we receive from our customers. The best feedback of all is when they come back, year after year, to purchase another stole from us!
A perfect example of a properly-fitting stole. Most stoles from C&M Designs measure 52 to 54 inches from the nape of the neck to the finished hem with panels 5 to 6 inches in width. This one is seen on a 5'2" model.

Heirloom Vestments
The clergy stoles and other liturgical pieces sold by C&M Designs are crafted with particular emphasis on durability. We realize the purchase of one of our stoles represents a significant investment -- one that the buyer hopes will be put to use over a period of decades.
Likewise, our concern goes beyond the immediate sale. C&M stoles are "built" for everyday use. To straighten out wrinkles, you can steam-iron as necessary. Ordinary dry-cleaning should take care of the rest.
NOTE: So-called "spot removal" can be tricky and is best left to professionals. Cleaning one of our stoles is no different than taking a jacket or a silk tie or a pair of slacks to a dry-cleaner you trust.
We know you will take care of your stole. Wear it often and tell everyone where you got it!
